I Want to Touch the Light, the Heat I See in...Lloyd's Eyes

Okay, normally, I don't link to entire articles, but this one had me both in stitiches and in cringing acknowledgement, that yes, I am (like so many) still have Lloyd Dobler in my heart.
Who else is out there? Who else sat in a dark movie theater in 1988 and fell head over heals for a movie character who holds up a boom box to serenade the love of his life or who shakes when he is happy?
I remember about 8 years ago getting my first chain letters on e-mail with the title, "You know you are a child of the 80's when..." listing off a number of facts, like you played with Strawberry Shortcake dolls and you know all the words to the theme song for Family Ties. Down, near the bottom of the list was: "You believe you have a personal relationship with John Cusack." My honest and first reaction was: BUT I DO!
Of course, as this article so wonderfully points out, I am not in love with John Cusack, but his character in Say Anything, Lloyd Dobler. So I'm here to out myself: I'm a 33 year old woman still in love with a movie guy. I've been looking for Lloyd Dobler my entire dating life. No wonder I was SO SCREWED for SO LONG. Movie love is nothing but fool's gold, my friends. It shimmers in the light, but it don't pay for didly.
So emberassing to find out AGAIN that you are part of a HUGE population of equally delusional women, all swooning when "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel comes on the radio. Can I help it?? It's A GREAT SONG and one of the BEST scenes in one of my FAVORITE movies.

Ah yes, well, I'm a little bit older than you (44 now) so my 'getting hooked on John Cusack' movie was The Sure Thing, with Daphne Zuniga. I can't tell you how many times I saw that ... although, come to think of it, I had already been married for two years (and now I've been divorced for 12). And my goodness, I can't believe how many movies that guy's made. Time for me to do some catching up.
i COMPLETELY associate "in your eyes" with that movie....whenever i hear it, my brain automatically shifts to that scene when lloyd is holding up the boombox to the window...my favorite thing in the movie was actually lily taylor, though!
i tend to disagree. i think everyone should have what i'd call "lloyd dobler moments" with their partners. i don't think movie love is continuous as they present it but i think it should surface on occasion, more than just one boombox scene, too.
Loved Lloyd. Actually, I just love John Cusack. Although I was not thrilled with the amount of eye liner he was wearing in that Must Love Dogs movie, but he is still fabulous.
Oh to have a man stand outside of my window with a boombox...
Another drop in the bucket of "Kai and Summer are actually twins seperated at birth who share the same brain":
I am reading that book by Chuck Klosterman that is mentioned in that article ("Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs"). I read this excerpt YESTERDAY:
"Fake love is a very powerful thing," "I once loved a girl who almost loved me, but not as much as she loved John Cusack. . . . It appears that countless women born between the years of 1965 and 1978 are in love with John Cusack. . . . But here's what none of these upwardly mobile women seem to realize: They don't love John Cusack. They love Lloyd Dobler. When they see Mr. Cusack, they are still seeing the optimistic, charmingly loquacious teenager he played in 'Say Anything.' . . .
"I miss that girl. I wish I was Lloyd Dobler. I don't want anybody to step on a piece of broken glass. I want fake love. But that's all I want, and that's why I can't have it."
I HIGHLY reccommend this book to you Summer. You are closer to Chuck Klosterman in age too, and you had a rather more media-saturated childhood than I did, so you would probably understand more things in it and subsequently LAUGH YOUR PANTS OFF!
I'm 28, and I'm inlove with John Cusack :) I discovered him quite late - Serendipity would you believe? I tried to get a copy of his old movies and now its official, I love him.
