I send an S.O.S. to the World

In an act of total openness (or desperation--take your pick), I need you people's help. I have a dream. I have a dream to take a class being taught by my HERO. It would literally be a dream come true for me to sit in a room with this woman, much less be taught by her. As usual, money is the factor. For two years, I have put off this dream, swearing that I would do it next year when I had "more money." It's year 3 and I am not ony in New York, which is closer and doesn't require a plane ticket to get to this week long workshop, but I am still faced with this financial obsticle. I need someone's advice: HOW DO I COME UP WITH $715.00 in the next month to register for this class? I am not asking for money. I am asking for ADVICE, IDEAS, PRAYERS, ANYTHING to help me accomplish this goal. I feel like a total dork and weirdo for posting this--but when you have a dream and a hope and all other routes have come to nil, you say THE HECK WITH HOW IT LOOKS: I NEED HELP!

I am open to ALL SUGGESTIONS. If you don't want to comment, send me an e-mail with "advice" in the subject line at summer@summerpierre.com

I'm not kidding! Send hope N-O-W. Seriously! No joke! H-E-L-P!

Sell yourself on ebay.

One private concert to the highest bidder at a venue of their choice somewhere in the New York area. If your story is good enough it might get picked up, talked about, or blogged about.

But it would all come down to the story - why you need to money.

Hmmmm ... is it at Omega, perhaps? If so, they offer scholarships. Maybe you could apply ... or if it's not at Omega, check with the venue anyway and see if they offer scholarships.

Auction off some of your art on eBay or Yahoo, and say right on the description that you're doing it to raise $$ for this, and put some kind of button about it on your blog so people can click right through to it. I know someone did this when they wanted to go to France (can't remember her name now), and she set up a CafePress store and had a little button on her homepage saying 'Help me get to France!' (the fees on CafePress are probably more than you might make, so I'd check into that first, but eBay and Yahoo should be more reasonable).

Sell your old books on half.com. I'm saving up for an iPod and recently cleaned out several bookshelves. I listed about 35 books -- only the ones I could list for $5 or more, and I've sold several ... I'm up to $85 so far toward my iPod. Not a lot, but something.

... just some quick ideas ... I'm sure you'll get many others. I'll add more if I think of some.

Great ideas so far-
And good on you Summer, for being so brave as to step out there, and j u s t a s k! :)

Maybe you could do just that, and contact the organisers, and explain your 3 long years of jonesing- Maybe they could organise a payment plan for you!??
(wishful thinking- I dont know)

OR like the ebay private concert..
If you have muso friends, get a bill together- then you could either sell raffle tickets, for a good fee, with the winner getting a 'free' performance at their house..
Or have it at a known parties house (who has oooooodles of friends) and charge a door fee [with your muso friends graciously playing only for a beer or 2 :)]

This could be a toughie..
But you could do portraits- but if possible hehe non SF cheesy ones, on the sidewalk, for a fee..
Like hmmmn $15, do 48 portraits, and you're home free- well maybe just one a day for the next month would be a good start.
(sharpies, white out and all-quick ones though!)

You could do some kind of bake sale- even at your shows- cupcakes?
Or maybe that's MY obsession coming out..

Reading over these ideas, some sound incredibley cheesy-
But I think no matter what you do, if your're very upfront about your intentions and wishes- you will only appear endearing, and people will simply want to help you get there!

GOOD LUCK, and keep us informed with how it goes!
