The Man's Birthday

Today is my man GRAHAM'S BIRTHDAY! HOORAY FOR GRAHAM!

He has to work today so we celebrated this weekend in grand style--photography exhibits, picnic in Central Park, movie about photography, and stuffed shrimp at a fabulous Spanish restaurant in Chelsea for dinner! To keep the party rolling, I made him a chocolate cake last night that is awaiting the pouncing of two chocolate loving fanatics. I debated whether or not to give it to him for breakfast, but we needed to have SOME party to come home to this evening.

I hate the word fiance. It doesn't roll off the tongue (it sounds too much like a sporting event) and whenever I try to use the word, I feel like I should be wearing a pink angora sweater set and my name should be MUFFIN and it should be 1950. I call Graham my husband-to-be or my groom. I've actually already called him my husband a few times to avoid using the 'F' word. I also like to call him THE MAN or MY MAN. I may not work for him, but I think Graham is THE MAN. I am so glad he was born.

Happy Birthday, Graham.

I call my husband "The bear" because he is such a grump when he gets up every morning. I like having him around, though. Oh, and by the way, I loved the book you sent me. Thank you so much.

I agree that fiance is a gruesome word and it DOES sound like some kind of sporting event. That's hilarious. Like the "10-meter fiance," or something like that (?) The only other thing I can think of is "fiance" as household tool or appliance -- or a BRAND of refrigerator, microwave or blender. I like the idea of using "groom," even though that also sounds like something you might use to wipe fuzz off of your clothing or keep tangles out of your hair. Best wishes, M.

In my head I hear the word like it was said on Seinfeld... nasally, and with no discernible 'n'. Alas, it is much better than using the word boyfriend at the age of 32 (which I am). Nothing can feel more silly thank that. I like the word fiance compared to THAT!

1) I had another thought about Fiance though -- why fight the sporting event theme; why not just give in, and call him your "luge" or your "Decathlon" :-)?
2) Hey, "hear me roar!" -- I think "boyfriend" is timeless, & I'd have been thrilled to use that term at age 32 if the man I'd wanted to be with, at that age, had reciprocated my designs on him. Alright, technically it was probably age 31, but close enough. Top THAT for silliness: trying to FORCE someone to be your boyfriend! Ugh. Humans are supposed to get past that phase when we're, what, FIFTEEN years old...I think I had a SECOND ADOLESCENCE.

I was skimming along for the overview and stumbled on the _the "F" word_... the word that came to mind?? ha! My bad. So anything you can call him that is not anything related to some kind of "F" word is good in my book. Maybe I should pay better attention...However, I sat there laughing at how many ways that could be misinterpretted...probably just by me...May be the "G" word is better. G = Guy or God, or Graham... Quite versatile...as in MGG,Or..OMGWaGG... Imagination... I'll stop. Love your blog and your art.
w
- but not the "W" word.
Have a wonderful Day. S & G ( _A_ doesn't work quite so well.)
