Biography of Summer Pierre - January 2005
In the course of a typical set, Summer will have the audience quickly laughing with her witty and hysterical introductions before evoking tears with a song that’s passionate and deadly serious. And then–seamlessly–before the song is over, she’ll have them laughing again. With her humor, charisma, and brilliant songwriting, Summer Pierre easily makes at least one new fan just about every time she performs. Summer grew up in Palo Alto, CA, in an eclectic family. Her father is a singer-songwriter and her mother rigs for rock musicians (Rolling Stones, David Bowie, among others). Writing a senior thesis on women in rock ‘n’ roll, Summer was inspired to try her own hand at music by teaching herself on a nylon stringed guitar, writing a new song for each new chord she learned. At the time, she was already a talented painter, cartoonist, and poet, and songwriting came quickly to her. During only her first year as a performer in Boston, she quickly attracted the attention and praise of audience and fellow-musicians alike. Since then, she has developed a loyal fan-base and has opened for such artists as Barbara Kessler, Faith Soloway, Lori McKenna, and Mary Lou Lord. Her debut full-length album, Far From Here (produced by 1999 Boston Music Awards nominee Rob Laurens), was released in September 2004, by independent Boston label, That Promising Seadog Media. Now residing in the Bay Area of California, Summer Pierre continues writing songs, performing, and creating art. |
